For my non-Irish based readers, “what is Bloom”, I hear you ask. Bloom 2013 is Ireland’s largest Gardening, Food, and Family event, celebrating and show-casing all that is great about Irish Gardens, Design, Initiatives, and Irish Food. It opened, this year, on 30th May, runs until 3rd June, and there is plenty for all the family to see, do, and purchase! It takes place in the largest city park in Europe, our beloved Phoenix Park, in Dublin.
I won two tickets for this event in a competition run in conjunction with Bord Bía – Irish Food Board, and the Irish Food Bloggers Association. We decided we would visit on Friday, as we thought it might not be as thronged with Bank Holiday crowds, and it was the only day we could make it, due to work committments.
Having never been before, I did not know what to expect, but after meeting up with our friends Margaret and Alfie from Oldfarm, eating pizza, and lounging around on beanbags, we formulated a “plan” of sorts!
Our first priority was to see the Show Gardens. This one, which won Silver Gilt is by Earthlinks in Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, was one of the many which caught my eye. It is tranquil, with clean-lines, and elegant, and well deserved win for a “first-timer” entry.
